“Just a dude playin’ a dude disguised as another dude.”
Michael Raymond Ryan Wait, 39 years young, of Maple Ridge, BC, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
What follows is only a fraction of the adventures, laughter, and love that made Mike who he was. Known to many as “Stuntman Myk,” and to his nieces as “Uncle Mikey,” he will be remembered for his bold, fiery love of spicy food, off‑grid camping adventures, jiu‑jitsu, and his unforgettable sense of humour and storytelling. He loved his family deeply and was a loyal friend. Kind‑hearted, selfless, and dependable, Mike was the kind of son, brother, uncle, and friend you could always count on.
He was a true hero to his nieces, Carly and Jocelyn, always showing up for any and all emergencies. Following in the footsteps of his father and papa, he was also a naturally gifted mechanic and “certified” German car expert. Mike never ran out of ideas or the courage to chase them. From motovlogging to drones, tractors, and farming, he was always planning the next chapter. His latest and boldest venture was destined to be his biggest yet, bringing a decade of trading expertise full circle into an algorithm‑trading business of his own.
Mike was paradoxically both reserved and gregarious. He cherished his solitude, racking up online gaming wins, yet could light up any room he walked into. He could be the life of any party he chose to attend and took great joy in pranking family and friends. When he was passionate about a topic, he became an expert in it. Family and friends regularly turned to him for advice and knowledge, confident in his broad skills and abilities. His known adventures have become family mythology, and his unknown ones are even better. For all his toughness, Mike had the softest heart for animals. His cat, Miles, was a constant companion, and over the years, he provided welcoming homes to many cats and dogs.
Mike is survived by his loving parents, Robert “Bob” Wait and Wendy Wait (née McLean) of Maple Ridge; his brother and best friend, John McLean (né Wait), and sister‑in‑law Laura McLean (née LeBlanc); his beloved nieces, Carly (Cody Felgnar) and Jocelyn (Nate Trampleasure), all of Maple Ridge, BC; aunts Susan (née McLean) Warnica (Frank) of Kingston, ON; Janice McLean (Tracy Read) of Kingston, ON; Cindy Knorek (née Wait) of Qualicum Beach, BC; Debbie Wait of Milton, ON; and several cousins and great‑cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Patricia (née Yeoman) McLean and Hubert McLean; his paternal grandparents Raymond Wait and Katie (née Bashnick) Wait‑Beuerlein and his uncles David Wait (Debbie) and Barry Wait.
Mike will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the laughter he brought into every room. Friday BBQs with his work buddies gave him the chance to tell stories about delivering service with a smile, no matter how difficult the client. He had a quick wit and a way of making people feel at ease. He was a light in the lives of everyone who knew him and was someone who always showed up, could be depended on when needed, and made even the hardest days a little easier with his humour. Family Sunday dinners will not be the same without him.
